Descriptive Language

Use Figurative language appropriately (simile, metaphor, onomatopoeia, alliteration, personification)

Conventions

  • Produce complete sentences
  • Fix fragments and run-on sentences
  • Ensure subject-verb and pronoun-antecedent agreement
  • Use correct capitalization
  • Spell grade-appropriate words correctly

Features

  • Use figurative language appropriately
  • Understand and use rhythm and rhyme
  • Appeal to the senses
  • Show, don’t tell
  • Focus on word choice – strong adjectives and vivid verbs
