Ideally, your microphone should be 4-6 inches away from your mouth.
Position your microphone so that you speak over or across it rather than directly into it.
If you mess up, continue recording but pause and go back to the beginning of the sentence. This will make editing easier.
Too much background noise? Borrow a portable sound booth from the library, or try to find a quiet place to record.
